How to get a good cut when mowing your lawn

GETTING A GOOD LAWN MOWING

First of all, the mower blade must be kept sharp in order to avoid tearing the grass.

If the grass is healthy, mow frequently to a height of 4 to 5 cm. (1.6 to 2 inches) in spring and fall and 5 to 7 cm. (2 to 2.8 inches) during the summer. The depth of the roots is usually directly proportional to the height of the cut. Mowing too short renders your grass more susceptible to drought, insect damage and damage from foot traffic.

Do not mow your grass when the ground is wet to minimize soil compaction. Always mow perpendicular to the direction of the previous mowing.

Mowing and trimming of borders should not be overlooked. This consists of trimming borders along walls, fences and ornamental plants. Grass along borders should be mowed at the same height as the rest of the lawn.
