Why aerate your soil?

WHY AERATE THE SOIL?

Many factors contribute to soil compaction. For example, clay soils, thick thatch layer, rain, irrigation and foot traffic.

RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR AERATION:

Following are some of the signs of a compacted soil:
Puddling of water on the soil surface, thin grass in spite of good maintenance, presence of weeds in spite of weed control. Ideally, the soil should be aerated once a year (spring or fall) for several years. Contact your Nutrite specialist for a free estimate.

ADVANTAGES OF AERATION:

Deeper rooting
More oxygen in the soil
Rapid water infiltration
Improved fertilizer efficiency
Enhanced thatch decomposition
Proliferation of beneficial microorganisms. (providing soil pH is not acidic)
Exceptional greening
Helps cool the soil during periods of heat

WHAT TO DO WITH THE PLUGS AFTER AERATION:

We recommend that you leave the plugs on the lawn. They will eventually breakdown with rain, and are considered to be a beneficial top dressing for the grass.
